After I ran the BMO Marathon in May 2007, I broke up with running. I didn’t even want to think about running ever again. The pain my body went through really just took me in a different direction until this year when a friend asked me to go for a run with her. I really didn’t want to go but I said I would and told her she would have to run slow with me because I hadn’t been for a run for almost a year. Once we got out there something happened. I wasn’t winded like I thought I was going to be. Apparently, kickboxing prepares you really well for running. I had a great run that night and it motivated me once again to get back out there and enjoy this city as a runner. Some days I am amazed by the beauty that surrounds us.
I have signed up for some races again. I am running a half marathon on June 28th and I am going to run the Victoria marathon in October. I am looking forward to the training as crazy as that might seem. I am travelling to Europe near the end of my training so I will be running in London, Paris and Edinburgh. What a great way to explore the city. I am so excited to get out there and see what I might discover.
I really never thought I would say this but I am glad running and I got back together. It wasn’t a good break up but some time apart and some healing needed to happen for us to find that love again.
That’s such a great post, and grlad to see you’ve started the love affair with running again. I’ve always found that running alows you to explore new cities a little better, and from a different perspective. There’s nothing better than running around an empty city early in the morning. As for races the Pacific Spirit National park run is good fun, and is only 5k so would be a nice bit of cross training for your marathons.
