I have been playing with my new camera for a little bit now. I still have so much to learn and have really only taken baby steps with it. I was lucky enough to go out one some beautiful fall days to take some shots. Here are a few…

Since the above pictures, I bought a new lens. I knew that I needed a bigger zoom that the kit lens provided so after some research and recommendations from a few photographer friends, I went with the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6IS USM Lens.

I have only gone out once with this lens to see my cousin play lacrosse. Sport photography is a tricky one for sure but I think I got one or two good shots.

Would love to get any feedback on any of the shots or any tips you might have. I have been meaning to sign up for a course but there just never seems to be enough time!

Canon, Canon T1i, photography

I have only ever owned your typical point and shoot digital cameras up until Friday when I purchased my first DSLR camera. I had been thinking about it for a while now as I am loving photography more and more and well with some of the travelling I have done in the past year, I wished I had a better camera. My previous two digital cameras were Canon’s so I wanted to stick with them. The recommendation I got was the T1i so when I saw it on sale, I jumped at the chance to pick it up.

I took it out for a test drive on Saturday night and took some shots at a friends party. I couldn’t get over the clear image it takes. I have a lot to learn but I can’t wait to figure it out all. I will be sharing a lot of my photos here so stay tuned!

The Food Photo Shoot

I never thought I would be sitting around a computer screen critiquing the amount of mayo on a burger but here I am. Food photography is actually quite precise and there are a lot of people involved. Marketing people, operations people, food stylists, agency reps, creative people & of course the photographer. Lots of people to get one shot right. People in studio right now…10.

It can take up to four hours to get one shot done but especially a burger shot. We start with a stand in (yes, even food have their own stand ins) to get the lighting and angles right. Then the “hero” dish/burger gets put on set and that’s when the real work begins. More mayo here, less relish there, angle the cheese that way, clip that piece of lettuce. Don’t under promise. Don’t over promise. The food gets serious attention from everyone.

But it can be like watching paint dry. Waiting, waiting and more waiting while the “hero” is being built by our very talented food stylist. And…just had to go to set to make a decision about a chicken strip. I had them change this one piece four times but ended up using the original piece but just angled it to make it look more interesting. Yup, chicken strips can be interesting. Why not?

Ok, the “hero” burger is now on being built so must go work my magic.

Quote of the day: “There is some great bubble action from that glass”.
