Commodore Ballroom, Concerts, Danko Jones, Music, Vancouver

When my good friend Jason asked me if I wanted to go to the Danko Jones show, I have to admit that I really didn’t know any of their music. Of course, I had heard of them but just hadn’t actually listened to any of their tunes.

Jason warned me that it was going to be a loud show so suggested I bring some ear plugs to protect my ears which i was grateful for. They were loud!! But they were awesome. They played a full on energetic set. And I loved every minute of it!

Here are some pictures I took at the show. I had just picked up this camera the day before. A Canon SD4500IS.

After the show, we were lucky enough to go backstage and chat with the band. Really great guys and down to earth.

I also got a chance to meet George Stroumboulopoulos which was kind of cool. He is a good looking guy…. not going to lie! 😉

I love nights when there are no expectations and end up being just so much fun! Last night was definitely one of those nights. Great times!

Now excuse me while I go download some Danko Jones.

Photo walks, photography, Photos, Vancouver, Whistler

I have been playing with my new camera for a little bit now. I still have so much to learn and have really only taken baby steps with it. I was lucky enough to go out one some beautiful fall days to take some shots. Here are a few…

Since the above pictures, I bought a new lens. I knew that I needed a bigger zoom that the kit lens provided so after some research and recommendations from a few photographer friends, I went with the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6IS USM Lens.

I have only gone out once with this lens to see my cousin play lacrosse. Sport photography is a tricky one for sure but I think I got one or two good shots.

Would love to get any feedback on any of the shots or any tips you might have. I have been meaning to sign up for a course but there just never seems to be enough time!

When I first heard “High Road” by Broken Bells, I was taken. Love the song and immediately bought the album on its release. I am a huge fan of The Shins so it isn’t surprising that I would like Broken Bells which features James Mercer, the lead singer for The Shins. It also features Brian Burton who some might know as Danger Mouse.

I jumped at the chance to get tickets to their show in Vancouver and was thrilled that they were playing at the Commodore. Such a great venue to really get a chance to see any band up close and personal.

Broken Bells

Broken Bells did not disappoint. With a big band backing both James and Brian (a total of 7), they played through most of the album with the addition of a few covers.

Brian on keyboard and James singing.

Has to be said, although I loved the show, I wish there had been some more audience interaction. A little more engagement from the band to really draw me in. That would have taken the show, for me, from being great to amazing!
