There’s Always Next Year!

Oh the deja vu.

Last year about this time, I was watching the Vancouver Canucks get eliminated in game 6 by the Chicago Blackhawks and once again, last night, we were ousted by them.

I am not going to lie, I thought we were going to make it at least to the Western Conference finals this year. Did I think it was going to be easy? No. But I thought we would eventually make it through until game 3 and 4 of the second round against Chicago. A team that is going to go deep in the playoffs can’t unravel like the Canucks did in those two games and again really last night.

I know there are a lot of “fans” out there who are off the bandwagon after last nights loss but the highs and lows are what it is all about to be a fan of a sports team. You can’t turn on them after a bad game or after being eliminated from the playoffs. We share the pain and then we move on and look ahead to next season.

After all, maybe next year is “our” year!

Spring Snowboarding

This post is about a week late but better late than never!

Last Sunday I went up to Whistler with Susan for the last time this season and managed to snowboard on what I think was the best day of the season. There wasn’t any new snow but the conditions were awesome! I find that snow in the spring can often get really sticky but the snow was great! I was lucky enough to be able to ride in a lot of powder this year but I preferred the conditions we got on this sunny spring day!

The best part of the day was that there was no one on the mountain! Everyone was missing out! We managed to get in a ton of runs as there were zero line ups at the chair lifts!

After lunch it was almost too warm to ride with a jacket on and with every run I had a bigger smile on my face. I have talked before about snowboarding being my mountain therapy and this day was a really great session!

Adding to this already stellar spring day was the patios waiting for us in the village. Stripping down (as much as we could) we sat on the patio at the Longhorn, having a beer and listening to the band. A perfect ending!  The only bad thing of the day…. was having to leave and head back to the city. Oh and the goggle sun burn that I am still paying for!

Side note: I think most of the people who read my blog know what a big fan I was of the Olympics so I had to take the below picture as we were heading to the gondola to make our way down to the village. I still get a warm fuzzy feeling looking at a Canadian flag and remember the 17 days of pure awesomeness that was held in Whistler and in Vancouver.

It is no shock to a lot of my friends that I have been down in the dumps lately. Just feeling depressed and tired. I had an awful weekend of feeling sorry for myself and eating crap. I  know I needed to make a change and for me that change starts with what I eat and how much I move. So it is back to the Body for Life program. When I am on a strict Body for Life program, I feel so much better about myself. Better about what I am fueling my body with which gives me more energy. And because I am working out a lot, I feel strong and confident!

For the next 13 weeks, Body for Life is going to be my life. For the next 13 weeks it is going to be all about me!!!

The workout plan:

Mondays:

Morning – weights (upper body)

Evening – kickboxing

Tuesdays:

Run – 40 min

Wednesdays:

Morning – weights (lower body)

Evening – kickboxing

Thursdays:

Morning – 40min run

Fridays:

Morning – weighs (upper body)

Evening – kickboxing

Saturdays:

Morning – 60 min (or more) run

Sundays:

Off

The Meal Plan:

6:30am Breakfast

9:30am Snack

12:00pm Lunch

2:30pm Snack

5:30pm Dinner

8:00pm Snack

I could go into detail about the food program but it is basically about combining the right amount of protein with the right amount of healthy carbs. You can find out more about the program at www.bodyforlife.com

Although it means some early mornings and a lot of meal preparation, I am so pumped about doing this again. And hopefully after the 13 weeks (and after I get back from Italy because lets face it, I am going to be eating more then my fair share of carbs over there) this won’t be just something I did for 13 weeks but it will become a way of life for me. Again.
