I thought the Canada vs Russia game was going to be for the Gold medal. Instead it was a quarter final game with the winner moving onto the semi finals. And the loser, would be done for the tournament. And was I ever a nervous wreck.

I should have known that good things were going to happen when we went to the Livecity Downtown site to watch the game though and there was no line up. A good omen!!

Some new and old friends. Go Canada Go!

The Canadian team scored right away and they didn’t let up. I thought the game was going to be a tight one but did not expect us to win like we did. It was amazing!

The energy at Livecity was crazy!

And it didn’t let up after the game either. Our women bobsled teams were racing and the crowd went crazy as we went 1 and 2…. another Gold and Silver for Canada!

Bobsled medalists!

I love how, no matter what the sport, whether it be bobsled, hockey or ice dance, that Canadians are 100% behind the athletes! It is an amazing thing to witness and be a part of!

Before leaving the Livecity site, we checked out Canada House and got our picture taken with an Olympic torch. I already have a few pictures with it, but I seriously love this photo!

We then decided to check out Granville and Robson street which we knew would be filled with people celebrating the big hockey win. It was so fun to see the excitement! There were high fives with strangers, spontaneous “Oh Canada’s” and just overall joy!

Granville Street

And to end the night? Why not a little skating at Robson Square skating rink. I am not a skater… like at all. I would say I shuffle more than skate and use the boards to stop! Knowing how bad I am, I have full respect for the athletes that can spin and jump like they do. We had a good time though.

Day 12… I am not going to lie… I am fading.

Day 12 was about my mom and I. We met in the morning and walked downtown to take in some of the pavilions before heading off to Pacific Coliseum to watch the Women’s Short program figure skating competition.

Ontario Pavilion

Mom and I. Picture was taken at the Saskatchewan Pavilion.

We walked up to Yaletown for lunch. First stop was Earls Restaurant. They immediately told us about a 20% auto gratuity which I wasn’t too pleased with but when I looked at how much they had jacked up their prices, we decided to go to Yaletown Brewery. Seriously, what normally was a $13 salad, they were charging $19.50 for. Not really in the Olympic spirit to gouge people is it? We had a great time at Yaletown Brewery though… proud of mom for drinking a beer with me!

Bell Ice Cube.

I enjoyed the Bell Ice Cube. With so many screens to choose from, it was a great place to catch the women’s ski cross quarter finals.

We then made our way back to the car and off to Pacific Coliseum. It felt like the entrance was 500 miles away. They make you walk practically to the other side of the PNE grounds before you could enter. And since it was raining, I was a little grumpy… and cold!

The skating happened to start at the same time as the Canada vs Germany mens hockey game so I had my blackberry out getting text updates and checking Twitter. I was happy that we were kicking some ass there so I could relax and enjoy the skating.

There were really some amazing performances. Especially that of Kim Yu-Na from Korea and of course our own Joannie Rochette, whose emotional performance, brought everyone to tears. How she pulled out that performance after losing her mother just a few days before is beyond me!

Kim Yu-Na of Korea. Sits in first place after the short program.

Canada’s Joannie Rochette. In 3rd place going into the long program.

Day 12 complete. A long but fun day!

We decided that today we would check out Granville Island and hopefully Atlantic House and The French Quarter. The lineup for Atlantic House was long, as always, so we decided to skip it and headed to Club Adrenaline in the French Quarter.

Sue, Arlana, Rey and I at Club Adrenaline.

It was a little disappointing that we had to suffer through watching curling (Canada was not playing) when we could have been watching the Ice Dancing free programs but they were pretty set on not changing the channel. Thankfully the french channel they were showing switched to show Virtue and Moir skate and do a gorgeous free dance. But they then switched back to curling so we missed the final two skaters and them hearing that they had officially won the Gold.

Virtue & Moir receiving their Gold medal.

There was a DJ playing at Club Adrenaline spinning 80’s music but we decided to head home. We have been going strong since Feb 10th so an early night was needed!

Sue, Jonathan and I goofing around at the end of the night.
