Lost Fingers, olympics, Quebec House, Vancouver, Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics

Today I made my first attempt at going to Heineken House. We waited in line for an hour, when we were told it was shut down for the night. I guess they were at capacity and only letting in people with accreditation or passports. I think I will have to try on a day when there are no medal hopefuls!!

We did manage to see Pat Quinn though which was very cool. He was dropping the puck on a street hockey game at the Richmond Oval. He seemed to be in good spirits despite coaching the always losing Edmonton Oilers!

We headed back downtown in hopes of getting into Ontario House not realizing that Broken Social Scene was playing that night so we decided to try Quebec House instead. There was a short line up but we didn’t have to wait long. There is really not much in the open roofed square house but a stage and a food/drink area. We were lucky enough to grab a table which thrilled me as I had been on my feet all day.

When the band came on we were blown away. The Lost Fingers are a jazz trio  from Quebec that haved created amazing arrangements of some classic hits. They made my night. What a wonderful surprise!

We then went to Rodney’s Oyster House for one last cocktail before heading home. We walked through Yaletown to get there and once again I was amazed by the amount of people. It is just crazy downtown at night right now. But the vibe is great. Everyone seems like they are just out to have a great time. And why not? We might as well all enjoy this once in a lifetime experience.

Hockey day. I was excited to go to my first tweet-up and maybe see some of the twitter people that I know. But excited too because we wouldn’t have to line up to get into watch the game! We got great seats right in front of the big screen. Pays to be places on time!

Must say, I thought we would play better against Switzerland but Switzerland played a good game and their goalie was solid! But a shoot out? Man, my heart can’t take that stress! But thanks to Crosby, we won the game!

A fun night hanging out with friends but an early night too. Glad we pulled out the win and looking forward to the game against the US on Sunday!

Day 6. I have to admit that I am happy Monday was a rest day because this week has been busy. Working all day and then enjoying the Olympic experience at night. That being said, I still have been in bed at a decent time every night. Priorities right?

Last night, we checked out the Minus 5 Lounge that has been set up on the patio at Monk McQueens. Clearly it is not a place you want to be spending hours in because it freakin cold! But it was fun to check out, have a drink and take some pictures!

Arlana and I

I was lucky enough to have been invited to an event at Sochi House. It was weird to walk into Science World and see zero resemblance of what it used to be. They really did a great job of transforming it into a place of information and fun.

The lower floor is dedicated to Sochi’s plans for the next Winter Olympics including a model of the town. Vancouver was lucky to have a lot of the event buildings etc in place but Sochi has to start from scratch.

Upstairs is where the club is located with a bar, dance floor and a stage for the bands. There is a VIP area with “pods” to sit in with lots of TV’s for Olympic viewing. We had a really good time! Careful at the bar though… they free pour that vodka!!

Hanging out at the bar.

Trying to score!!

To end the night, we were able to catch the fireworks that are held nightly at 10:45.
