I normally I pick one race a year to concentrate on. Last year was the Scotia Half marathon and then because I felt so good running that race I chose to train for the Victoria Marathon. This year I have decided not to do any long distance races but concentrate on a shorter one. Seek the Peak. This is a 16-kilometer course that starts on the beach at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver, winds its way through North Vancouver, then heads up the Grouse Grind to the Peak of Grouse Mountain. A 4,100-foot elevation gain.
I have done this race 2x before. Actually I should say I started it 2x. The first year I completed it in just under 2 hours and 31 min but the second year, I was sick and had to pull out at the base of the grind. Not an easy race to complete when you are not feeling well. So my goal for this year is to again complete this race. No time expectations. Just to finish and feel that accomplishment and…
raise money for breast cancer at the same time. $5 of each race entry and all proceeds from event shirt sales go directly to Rethink Breast Cancer (http://www.rethinkbreastcancer.com/). Everyone is also encouraged to raise funds for such a worthy cause.
